Review: The Widow

The Widow The Widow by Fiona Barton
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book was ok but for me didn't live up to the hype.

Told from several different points of view and switching time frames it could have been confusing but it wasn't.

A small child goes missing. A man is suspected. He trawls pornographic sites. But with no body and very little evidence it's hard for the police to form their case. When they do and the case goes to trial the case is thrown out and he walks free.

All the time his wife stands by him.

From the title it's clear the suspect has died and the widow is finally able to speak freely.

It feels as if the book is building to some big twist or denouement but I felt the ending was disappointing. There is closure but it felt ordinary, not a "Wow I didn't see that coming" moment.
